“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that though he was rich,
yet for your sake he became poor,
so that you by his poverty might become rich.”
– 2 Corinthians 8:9
On 20schemes’ tagline Gospel Churches for Scotland’s Poorest: “What we mean by the word ‘poor’ is not necessarily materially. Actually, what we mean by the word ‘poor’ is spiritual. Not only is there spiritual poverty in our communities – people are not Christians – but they have little access or poor access to any Gospel-preaching church.” – Mez McConnell (see podcast below, 8:37-8:53)
WAYS YOU CAN PRAY:
- I am amazed that the Lord Jesus left Heaven to be fully God & fully man and to live among sinners on this broken earth. Let us thank Him for this deep mercy and pray that we never grow cold to how amazing this is! In Christ we truly are so very rich.
- Please pray that the Lord would give me humility and also the wisdom of living a life of complete trust in Him. There is much change ahead as I take steps to move to a scheme this October if that is God’s will; I feel my need for Him so keenly.
- Also, even though I am funded to move forward with 20schemes this year, I still have about 6% to go until the Missions Intern budget is 100% funded. Would you join me in praying that the Lord would be honored in the timing and the means of how this is provided? He has already been so gracious!
- Let’s also pray this week for the Executive Director of 20schemes, Matthew Spandler-Davison. See below. 🙂
PICTURE FOR THIS WEEK:
This is Matthew!

He is the Executive Director of 20schemes, the Operation Manager of Acts 29’s Church in Hard Places (click here!), and the pastor of Redeemer Fellowship Church in Bardstown, KY. Let’s pray for Matthew, for his family, for his church, and for joyful endurance and beautiful fruit in his ministry work with 20schemes and Church in Hard Places. Let’s praise God for him and for his vision to see Gospel-preaching churches revitalized and planted in the poorest places in Scotland and around the world.
Also, this podcast is excellent if you have time to watch it. It gives the background story to how 20schemes started, it talks about the vision behind 20schemes and Church in Hard Places, and it also gives one of my favorite stories about how Mez and Matthew met. And, as a side note, the book Mez and Matthew mention in the podcast (Church in Hard Places) can be found here.
“Leaving riches without number, born within a cattle stall / This the everlasting wonder, Christ was born the Lord of all,”
