Dear family in Christ,

Thank you very much for praying for the local funeral last Friday. I have never experienced such a community feel before in anywhere else I’ve lived – the main street was lined with people slowly clapping as the hearse drove by. Even the bakers came out of our local bakery to stand at the street. A couple hundred people heard Chris preach the Gospel, too. We pray that the Lord will save people in our community!

Also, there were about nine people from our community who came to our Sunday service this week. I’m always encouraged when even one person comes. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to open eyes and hearts to the Gospel! While we care about people’s physical poverty here, the Gospel is what our community needs most because only Christ can save and change us.

Other news for this week is that Ragged School of Theology classes have begun for the fall term. I’ll be taking classes from 20schemes on women’s ministry, overview of the Bible, intro to the New Testament (focused on the Gospel of Mark), and evangelism & discipleship. Please pray for me in these studies, not only that I would learn helpful knowledge for my internship role but that I would gain a heart of wisdom and be changed more into the image of Christ.

Above: Unusually sunny week here in Merkinch & usual amount of laundry 🙂

Below: Time must be headed towards autumn because the sun is setting at 9:30 now instead of 11:30. Here is the view from our community out over the firth.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10) Yes! May we boldly proclaim the excellencies of God in Merkinch & South Kessock. Thank you for praying for us!!

Hold fast,

Claire
