Some things to be thankful for from the past week:

I popped by her house to see how she was getting on. She’s been coming to our church recently and seems hungry for truth. After chatting for a while, she told me about a sad happening in the neighborhood. “So many people looking for hope,” I said. And she pointed in the direction of the church hall and said, “Yes. That is why I am so glad I have this place.” Thank you, God, that people know that Jesus gives hope.

The Bicycle Lady grabbed me after church on Sunday. “I have something for you.” And to my great surprise she gave me a calendar of Psalms. Thank you, God, that you can soften hearts.

The gift from the Bicycle Lady

Biking home from Aldi I bumped into two women I have been getting to know. They often comment that our church is different…that we actually care for people. And today they said to me, “We hope you stay.” Thank you, God, that you graciously let us reflect your light in a weary world.

While I was walking along our street at dusk, several people I know waved to me from their kitchen windows as they were getting their tea on. Thank you, God, that you have allowed me to serve this community.

Breakthrough group on Fridays: offering the hope of Jesus for addictions and mental ill health

Standing in line outside of “the chemist” (the pharmacy) I hear a voice call, “Hiya Claire!” Thank you, God, that I can live life with these folks and that they know me.

And, lastly, it hit me this week that half of the people who come to our church hall on Sundays are unbelievers from the community. That is amazing! Thank you, God, that you are drawing people to hear your Gospel.

This is a picture I found in our local Press & Journal newspaper this week…it’s of Merkinch’s football team back in the 70’s. That football team is still going strong, and I wouldn’t be surprised if most of these guys still live here. Our scheme has a long history and a tight-knit community.

Would you continue to pray for us this week?

Would you pray that we would be steadfast, immoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord? And also for me, that I would be thick-skinned and soft-hearted. Thank you for your many prayers, friends. I’m very serious…thank you. We cannot do this alone. “You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessings granted us through the prayers of many.” (2 Corinthians 1:11)

Stick close to Jesus,

Claire
