Janaury 19, 2022

After posting last week’s letter, I expected that I would jump back into Merkinch life and get to share with you this week what the Lord has been doing in our church plant and community since I was away. But in the Lord’s providence I ended up coming down with Covid and have been recovering in isolation. Most days I have been too physically exhausted to do much, but therein has been the sweetness of the time. I have been given the gift of being forced to slow down and sit, quite literally, in one place for a long time. And in doing so I have had precious time to simply commune with the Lord and listen to Him.

One of the things that has been a blessing this week has been seeing the sunrise every morning…here are a few of them from this week although the colours aren’t as brilliant in the photos. Isn’t the Lord’s handiwork amazing?

Even though I am sick and in isolation, and even though you, dear reader, are far from Merkinch, we can still do what is most needful. We can sit at the Lord’s feet. We can listen to Him. And we can pray. I hope to give an update on the church plant soon when I am about and about in Merkinch again. But here are two ways you can pray in the meantime…along with any other way the Holy Spirit may lead you to intercede!

  • Can you pray for our launch team? We are all just a bit tired out either from being sick (Chris, Katherine, and I have all had Covid this week) or from serving in the running of the church plant while the others recover. Pray that we would all rest in Jesus and bring Him praise whether we are laid low or are busy serving and loving others.
  • And can you pray for a lady in Merkinch who has begun reading the Bible with one of our team? This is joyous news. Please, will you pray that she may come to know forgiveness and freedom in Jesus?

Well, that’s all for now folks as I am quite low on energy. As I write this, the sky is darkening and the silhouettes of the mountains glow purple with the dying sunlight. Soon night will cover over this city again and the lights in the Merkinch flats will flicker on with their strange fluorescent glows. And I will hear again the sound of sirens. But as we wait through the long hours for the first light of dawn, we remember Jesus, our Morning Star. And we remember the sure promise we have that one day soon night will be no more. And we will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be our light. So let us run with endurance the race set before us…looking to Jesus.

Thank you for praying for us! If you have ways I can be praying for you, please always feel welcome to shoot me an email. I might not respond very quickly, but I will definitely pray. Stick close to Jesus,

Claire
