“We go to all the world /
With kingdom hope unfurled /
No other name has power to save /
But Jesus Christ the Lord //”
Hi friends,
This last Friday our church started up our Breakthrough ministry again. This is where we invite people from our community to come and see what the Psalms say about mental ill health. In our scheme which is the eighth most deprived area in Scotland, so many people are struggling and in need of hearing God’s Word.
Last Friday we started with looking at Psalm 88 and how the Lord speaks to us about depression. One man from our community came, and Chris and I and another man from our church got to have a good chat with him. It was really encouraging to get to have such an honest conversation about depression…and to get to share how a Christian has hope in Jesus even in the midst of the deepest darkness. It was special to get to share directly from my own life, as well, how the Lord has met me in times of great struggle. (Sidenote: That seems to be something the Lord has been putting on my heart more and more in the last couple of weeks….to keep sharing with others about His goodness in the midst of my seasons of depression. Maybe you could pray for me in that.)
This Friday we are going to be talking about our struggles with anxiety. Will you please pray for us? Pray that the word about Breakthrough will spread and more people from our community will come. Pray for Chris as he leads this time…that he will be given great gentleness and wisdom. And please pray for me that I might be able to serve and learn with humility and grace. And we pray that people will come to know Jesus and have open ears to hear God’s Word.

Today in the Ragged School of Theology our Church History class studied the life of Spurgeon. I was stirred again when hearing about his perseverance and his great love for our Lord Jesus. This is one of his quotes that has been encouraging to me this week: “Let the unknown tomorrow bring with it what it may, it cannot bring us anything but what God shall bear us through.”
Thank you, friends, for your continued prayers. I really mean that. We need you, brothers and sisters. Thanks for your loving labour of prayer. Let us keep looking this week to our Father of mercies in whom there is not even a shadow of change.
Press on in His strength,
Claire
