Family in Christ,
Last week I ended up not posting since I was in the middle of a road-trip with Chris and Katherine. It was a lovely holiday with the Davidsons, and we had many exciting times together including a terribly cold swim in the North Sea. And it was a refreshment to my soul to see such stunning beauty in the hills and mountains of this rugged country.
Not only were we able to see a pretty wide swath of Scotland, though, but we were also able to spend time with people in a couple of churches in different parts of the country. I was affected again and again by the faithfulness of our brothers and sisters who are joyfully slogging it out in tiny churches without much external support. And I was also affected seeing so many areas that don’t have Gospel-preaching churches as well as so many churches that don’t have a pastor. I know you all probably get weary of hearing me talk about the great Gospel need in Scotland, but I hope that we don’t ever grow dull to it or stop praying for the Lord to raise up laborers for the great harvest here.
So I have returned to Merkinch with an ever-growing passion for Christ to be made known, for He is truly the only hope for the hopeless. If you want to pray for me this week, please pray for God’s mighty strength that I might be steadfast. This week has been a struggle as I battle with lies about feeling alone or useless. I know that the enemy would have me curl into a ball and give up reaching out to folks here in Merkinch, but I cling to the promise that God’s light is always stronger than the darkness. Please pray that I would wait upon the Lord this week and in that waiting know the wonder of His gracious presence always with me.
I have been thinking on Psalm 40 today and am amazed again at the truth that the Lord is a God who inclines His ear to His people. That is His posture towards us…one of grace. So let us not grow weary, but let us run with endurance the race set before us.
